Mukta Arts Limited was established in 1978. It is a Mumbai-based Indian film production company. The founder of the company is Subhash Ghai. The company is involved in the production, distribution, exhibition and education of cinema and creative arts and the production of digital software in television serials, web series and documentaries.
Subhash Ghai set up his own film production company, Mukta Films, on 24 October 1978, and in 1982 a film was produced titled Karz. After that he formed a new independent company, Mukta Arts Private Limited and produced and directed many movies including Hero, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Trimurti, Khalnayak, Pardes, and Taal till 2000.
Mukta Arts Limited became the first company from the Hindi film industry to be listed on the stock exchanges in India in 2000. Traded as BSE: 532357, NSE: MUKTAARTS. Commercial movies like Yaadein, Aitraaz, Kisna, 36 China Town, Yuvraaj and Apna Sapna Money Money, these films were produced by the company. The company also produced low-budget movies under the banner of Mukta Searchlight Films, including Iqbal, Joggers Park, Rahul and Black & White. In 2006, it won a National Award for IQBAL as best film on other social issues. It also produced three Marathi, one Bengali, one Punjabi and one Kannada movies. It set up its own all India distribution network and released many Hindi and English movies.
After entering the exhibition sector in 2012, it launched its own chain of multiplex theaters under the name of Mukta A2 Cinemas. At present, the company has 18 locations in India and one in Bahrain with 54 screens. Mukta Arts Ltd. also has a joint venture in the exhibition programming space with a 55:45 shareholding split with UFO in the company Mukta VN.
Finally, the company has opened Asia's largest and best Film, Television, Animation and Media School - Whistling Woods International, which continues to create its reputation of high-quality education worldwide. It is affiliated with TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) and provides Diplomas and Degrees to students in Arts and Crafts of Cinema, Animation, Music, Fashion and Management. The institute serves as a contributor and advisor to the Indian government through the Skills Ministry and the HRD Ministry. The institute now has over 4000+ graduates successfully placed and 1300+ students currently studying on campus.
