Vijay Sethupathi
Vijaya Gurunatha Sethupathi Kalimuthu, professionally known as Vijay Sethupathi, was born in Rajapalayam on 16 January 1978. When he was in 6th standard, he moved to Chennai. He attended the MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam and Little Angels Mat. Hr. Sec. School. Sethupathi stated that he was always a "below-average student" throughout his school years and had little interest in sports or extracurricular pursuits. At the age of 16, he tried out for a part in Nammavar (1994), but was turned down because of his height. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Dhanraj Baid Jain College in Thoraipakam.
Sethupathi worked as a salesman at a retail store, a cashier at a fast food joint, a phone booth operator, and an account assistant at a wholesale cement business. Later he moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as an accountant because it paid him four times what he was earning in India. In Dubai he met his future wife, Jessie, online.
In 2003, dissatisfied with his work, he went back to India. He got married to Ms. Jessie. He dabbled in the interior decoration industry alongside friends before moving to a marketing firm that specialized in ready-made kitchens. Nonetheless, his love for acting drove him to accept a position as an accountant with the Chennai-based theater company Koothupattarai. This job enabled him to dive into the theater scene, where he could closely watch actors perform, intensifying his aspiration to pursue acting.
Entering the Film Industry He started out as a background actor, playing small supporting parts in movies like M Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi, Dishyum, Pudhupettai, Lee, Venila Kabadi Kuzhu, and Naan Mahan Illah. He also starred in a number of short films, including Athiyayam, Neer, Thuru, Wind, Maa Thavam, Kadhalithu Paar, The Angel, Bench Talkies, and Petti Case. Seenu Ramasamy's action-drama Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), which took home three National Awards, featured him in his debut main role. His roles as a villain in Sundarapandian (2012) and in the horror-thriller Pizza (2012), comedy Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), and comedy-thriller Soodhu Kavvum (2013) further demonstrated his versatility. He became one of the most sought-after performers in the Indian film industry after more than 16 years of devoted practice. In addition to his film career, he has also ventured into web series, anthologies, and short films, further showcasing his immense talent and range.
